The flora and fauna of the Caspian Sea is not only rich and diverse, but also different from the fauna and flora of other seas and lakes. The sea is home to 755 species and subspecies of plants, and also inhabits about 920 species of animals, and among them there are many that you will not find anywhere else in the world. For example, the Caspian seal is the only mammal of the Caspian Sea, and this subspecies is not found anywhere else in the world.
A favorite resting place of the Baku residents and capital guests is Boulevard (seafront). From the boulevard you can also make a real sea-voyage by pleasure-boat along the Baku Bay. During such boat tour a guide will put up the tourists with interesting facts and legends from the Caspian Sea history.
This little ferry is a great way to understand the scope of the harbor. Weekends see the boats fill with locals, families and young couples, amusingly causing the vessel to list from one side to the other as they tussle for the best views of the city.
On the shady part of the park near Azneft Square there is a place that will bring anyone from sunny Baku to sunny Venice.
Baku’s Venice was constructed in 1960 by Baku mayor Alish Lambaranski, who visited Venice and was impressed by its beauty that he aimed to recreate its charm back at home. He decided to create such a wonderful scenery in his city and soon the seaside park in Baku was the only park in the Soviet Union with such an attraction.
The outstanding European city on the shore of the Caspian Sea offers restaurants and blue channels with gondolas. The so-called ‘Little Venice’ has immediately become the favorite leisure place for locals and tourists.
